South Africa boasts an impressive array of approximately 900 bird species, representing about 8% of the world’s avian diversity. With 450 of the 900 bird species found in South Africa that occur in the Garden Route and Klein Karoo area, the festival offers a unique opportunity for birding enthusiasts to experience the rich diversity of the region which includes various habitats to explore.
Within the greater Plettenberg Bay area alone, our local birding club has documented almost 300 bird species, including 27 endemic or near-endemic treasures. This abundance of birdlife and the breathtaking landscape creates the perfect backdrop for an extraordinary birding exploration during the Bitou Birding Festival.
